Things to do in spring in Seattle

Spring in Seattle can be a tricky season for which to plan activities. The weather is still chilly on many days, and rain is a likely part of the daily forecast. Planning activities that take place indoors is probably your best bet. But when one of those gloriously warm and sunny days comes to Seattle in the spring, here are a couple of great options for activities.

Pike Place Market:
Located in downtown Seattle, Pike Place Market is an outdoor market featuring a wide array of sights and smells. There are souvenirs and crafts to peruse, but there are also fresh flowers, fresh fruits and vegetables, and fresh fish. The last of these tends to give the Market an unmistakeable scent, but there are plenty of other things to do and see if you can't stand the smell of fish. The main walkway of Pike Place Market is covered, and there are all sorts of shops below the main walkway, so this can even be an option on cooler or rainy days.

Olympic Sculpture Park:
The Olympic Sculpture Park, also located in downtown Seattle, opened to the public on January 20, 2007. This outdoor sculpture park covers nine acres within view of Puget Sound, and allows visitors to view a wide array of modern art in an outdoor setting. If the weather turns unpleasant while you are visiting the Olympic Sculpture Park, the PACCAR Pavilion offers an indoor location to escape the elements.

Woodland Park Zoo:
The Woodland Park Zoo, located in Ballard (north of downtown Seattle), is another wonderful activity for beautiful spring days in Seattle. There are plenty of outdoor exhibitions of animals, as well as some indoor exhibitions. Depending on the exact day you visit Woodland Park Zoo, there may be exciting events or special exhibits open, so be sure to check their website before you plan your visit.
